For some strange reason, my bbt and positive results on an opk never agree. Just about every month that I have been testing, I get a temp shift about 2 days prior to getting a positive result on an opk. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Which do you find to be more successful, bbt or opk's? I have been ttc for 6 months with no success (not sure how much longer I will ttc through donor sperm). I have had tests with an OB and an RE and both could find nothing wrong with me as far as fertility is concerned. (After three attempts with a medical professional, I decided to insem at home) Therefore, I am wondering if 'wrong timing' of the insems is the culprit. Before moving onto the 'natural method' of achieving reproductive success, I was wondering if anyone could offer advice on bbt's vs. opk's.
lemon, The same thing happens for me. Kaiser says it is normal for the BBT to dip a day or two before the OPK turns positive. I just had me second AI last week based on the OPK result. One thing I did after reading other people's comments was start checking the OPK every 12 hours, instead of 24, once my BBT dropped, which resulted in my going in a whole day earlier than I would have if I hadn't done it that way. (My thought being that perhaps I had gone in too late the last time.) So, we'll see what happens. Good luck!
lemon, I just went off of the pill this month for the first time in 20 years, am very excited about trying to get pregnant as well as being a whole woman again. It's amazing to me when I think back on how disconnected I was to my body and the thought of being a mom. Turning 40, a major spotlight went on to get a move on and take charge of my body and get pregnant. I am reading the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and am in the learning stages of the FAM method of taking temperatures, cervical fluid and positioning. Have any of you out there been following it? It can be confusing. My ob/gyn thinks that BBT is not reliable and is constantly down playing, she has really not been there for me either. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I agree that BBT may not be reliable for everyone. I didn't get a handle on my ovulation cycle until I started using opk's. At this point, I almost always ovulate on day 14. As for Taking Charge of Your Fertility, I've heard nothing but good things about the book.
