Hello, I am just starting the whole process. I am considering starting out with Clomid for my first attempt. Does anyone have any negative feelings about starting out with fertility meds before trying without meds? Also, what side effects have you had with Clomid? I am a teacher and I think by the time that I start taking the meds I will be starting the new school year and I worry about how it will make me feel. Thanks! Wendy ):)
wkuiper, I will be starting Clomid for the first time next week so I don't have any first hand experience with it yet, but two of my friends used Clomid and had no side affects at all and both of them got pregnant on the first try. It was the Estrogen and Progesterone that had small affects for them. The Progesterone made them very tired for about an hour after taking it. Good luck
Imamomnow, I am 0 for 2...and waiting to get word on attempt #3. I wish I would have started on Clomid from the beginning. If #3 doesn't work out I will start Clomid with my period. I think it will just improve your chances of success from the beginning. I have heard the side effects are not too bad. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end! Good luck to both of you!
Imamomnow & Turnerjam, Thank you very much for your responses! I hope you both have much quick success! Yes, I guess any side effects will be well worth it.
wkuiper, I will be starting Clomid with my first attempt in about a month. A friend of mine just did a round of Clomid and she had no side effects, but no pregnancy either. She has fibrods that may be hurting her chances. I was against using drugs to get pregnant but after all that I have been through, I will do whatever works. Good Luck!
wkuiper, I started with Clomid on my first try (I am in the TWW for my 3rd try). I have had no side effects. I would say to go with the meds to help your chances.
wkuiper, I have been on Clomid for two cycles now. Hot flashes are the only side effect I experience. They aren't too bad, except my girl always complains that I keep the house way too cool during those five days
klg, I used clomid for 2 cycles and conceived on my second round. I now have a 12 month old daughter. I am starting another round of it in September for our second child. I had no side effects really from it. I took it from day 3-7 of my cycle. It worked great for me and I hope it does again! Good luck :)
We tried an IUI naturally (no meds) last fall - 4 vials, with no success. We decided to take a break during the winter months. After some0 research, we found a fertility clinic, and began trying in May. I was on 50 mg. of Clomid from day 3-7, around day 12 we would have an internal sonogram, and according to the size of the egg follicule we would do the trigger shot at home 36 hours before insemination. We had no success with this method in May or June. :( However, in July, my doctor prescribed 100 mg. of Clomid, and we were successful with this!!! :) We are due in March 2007!
I must say that I didn't feel any symptoms of the Clomid, except sweating in the middle of the night. A few nights I would wake up hot. My Mom informed me that this is like menopause! It wasn't bad at all. I would recommend using Clomid, if your doctor thinks it's best.
BEST OF LUCK!!!! Here's some baby dust!!!! ;) Proud Moms (to be)
To all of you that used Clomid, Did any of you do OPKs while on Clomid? I'm starting day 4 of 100mg (day 6 of my cycle) and I did an opk this morning and there is a faint line showing. Can just being on the pills give you false readings? 8-O I would think it was too early to detect anything.
I took clomid at the beginning and I got preg on my fourth try. It can give you hot flashes for sure. If you are aware of mood changes you will be ok. It is like PMS x's 2. That is how I would explain it. Having a baby will be much more trying!!!! Michelle ):)
Why are you thinking about Clomid? Do you not ovulate, or ovulate irregularly on your own? How's your luteal phase?
If you're ovulating normally and have a decent luteal phase, Clomid is going to be more contraceptive than pro-conceptive, because it thins your uterine lining, etc.
I did 4 rounds of Clomid for short luteal phase (9-10 days without, 11-12 days with; normal is 14), and got pregnant the cycle we upped the dose to 100mg. 50mg wasn't too bad - it made me super moody, but that was it. 100mg kicked my butt - I swear I spent the first two weeks of that month doing nothing but crying and yelling.
Your doctor should have told you not to do OPKs until 3 days after your last Clomid pill. It's known to cause false-positives. (My vague recollection is that the OPK package inserts contain the same information, but it's been 4 years, so...)
