A.R.T. Vials - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What are A.R.T. vials?
    A.R.T. (Assisted Reproductive Technology) vials contain fewer motile sperm than our premium vials.
  2. What are the uses for A.R.T. vials?
    • Procedures such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), GIFT, ZIFT AND ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection)
    • Sibling pregnancies (when premium vials are not available)
    • Conventional IUI or ICI insemination (with consent of the attending physician)
  3. How do A.R.T. vials differ from CCB's premium vials?
    A.R.T. vials contain fewer total motile sperm than our premium vials, but have a sufficient number to be acceptable for A.R.T. procedures.
  4. Why did California Cryobank decide to offer A.R.T. vials?
    CCB began offering A.R.T. vials as an alternative for clients whose insemination procedure can be accomplished using fewer sperm than is required for the more conventional methods.
  5. Are A.R.T. vials from the same CCB donors as the premium vials?
    Yes. A.R.T. vials are from donors who are also producing premium vials.
  6. Are A.R.T. vials created for all CCB donors?
    No. A.R.T. vials may not be available for all CCB donors.
  7. Are A.R.T. vials available in both IUI and ICI preparations?
    Yes. A.R.T. vials may be available in both IUI and ICI preparations.
  8. How many total motile sperm do the A.R.T. vials contain?
    Following post-thaw, A.R.T. vials will contain:
    • ICI vials – a minimum of 8-14 million motile sperm in 0.8-1.0 ml
    • IUI vials – a minimum of 5-9 million motile sperm in 0.4-0.6 ml
